What is the purpose of Project Purify?
Project Purify is a movement of people who care about this planet of ours and are willing to do something to fight against climate change. Project Purify gives regular people access to the carbon offset market that governments and earth-conscious producers use to offset their CO2 emissions. For just pennies a day you can offset your carbon use, and even send offsets to friends as gifts! We only sell audited carbon credits from verified sources.
A carbon offset -- also known as a carbon credit -- represents a certain quantity of greenhouse gases that has been removed from the atmosphere (called "sequestering"). When you purchase carbon credits from Project Purify you are basically paying someone else to sequester greenhouse gases on your behalf. How do I join Project Purify? How do I create an account?
In order to join Project Purify you must have a Facebook account (create one here). Then just go to our front page and log in! Don't worry, we don't get access to any of your private information. By using Facebook, Project Purify can connect with you and millions of other people, and working together we can make a substantial difference in our world.
How do I get free offsets to give to my friends?
When you buy any amount of carbon offsets, even as little as $1, Project Purify will throw in two free $1 offset packages that you can give to any of your friends! Just select what you want to buy or give, and when you complete your transaction you'll be able to send free $1 packages to two of your friends. Every little bit helps!
Where do carbon offsets come from?
Project Purify purchases offsets from the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX), the nation's first open market for buying and selling greenhouse gas offsets. When you buy a kilogram of CO2 from us, it is permanently sequestered and removed from the atmosphere! (The CCX calls that kilogram "retired" from the market.) By retiring carbon you will make a significant and lasting contribution to the fight against climate change.
What kind of projects create the offsets that I'm buying?
There are hundreds of different kinds of projects that can sequester greenhouse gases and remove them from the atmosphere. Just to name a few: agricultural, coal mine, and landfill methane capture and combustion; soil carbon sequestration via conservation tillage and grass-planting; wind, solar, and other renewable energy; increased energy efficiency and fuel switching; forest management and afforestation; rangeland soil management; and ozone depleting substance destruction.
How does the Chicago Climate Exchange verify that the offsets sold on it's market are legitimate?
